At 9pm on Wednesday 29 November 2017, police were called to reports of an armed robbery at Lidl on Chatsworth Street.

The offenders entered the store as it was closing and approached the tills before forcing open the cash drawers whilst swinging baseball bats in the air.

An employee began to approach the men who then fled the store with a quantity of cash down Smethurst Lane towards Pemberton.

Nobody was injured during the robbery.

The duo were wearing dark tracksuits and had scarves around their faces.

Detective Constable Suzanne Rigby, of GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “This was a brazen robbery that has understandably left the employees extremely shaken.

“They were getting ready to go home and were closing the store when the armed offenders ran in.

“I appreciate this happened late in the evening when the area would probably have been relatively quiet, but I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

“I would also urge anyone that has any information that could assist our investigation to please contact police.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting reference number 2027 of 29/11/2017, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
