Have your say on the future of sport and physical activity in Manchester

2 min read

Whether you’re a ‘couch potato’ or coached to perfection, all Manchester residents are invited to take part in the new Sport and Physical Activity Survey.

Open until the end of this month, the survey has been launched to help inform Manchester’s planned long-term strategy for the future of sport and physical activity in the city.

The survey is open to everyone, whatever their current level of engagement with sports and physical activity.

Through the survey, residents are asked to share their thoughts on everything from how their local leisure facilities could be improved, what if anything prevents them from being active, what they like most about the city’s current leisure offer and what would encourage them to try out more sports and physical activities.

On behalf of a network of stakeholders, Manchester City Council is leading a review of sports and physical activity in the city, ahead of creating a new long-term vision for Manchester.  The vision will encompass everything from supporting the least active residents to build activity into their everyday lives, those doing something but wishing to do more, right through to the development of future Olympians and World Champions.

This will provide a framework for actions by partners working together across Manchester – including the Council, health sector, amateur and professional sports clubs, national governing bodies and voluntary groups.

The Council will also consult with existing community groups across Manchester, as part of its drive to engage the widest possible range of residents.

Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman, said: “This survey gives everyone in Manchester the chance to give us their opinions, criticisms and praise, as we look at how we can best promote sports and physical activity in Manchester, to help more residents to get more active.

“Understanding people’s experiences, good and bad, will help us to plan how we will improve on the facilities and activities that are currently on offer.

“In order to create a long-term strategy for sport and physical activity in Manchester which delivers for everyone, we need to hear from as many people as possible – no matter how ‘active’ they currently are.”
