It is one year on from when a football fan was seriously attacked during a Manchester City vs Celtic match.

On Tuesday 6 December last year, the victim was watching the game with a friend at the Etihad Stadium.

Towards the end of the second half the offender – who was sat in front of seat 153, row H, block 206, aisle 207 – grabbed the man by his jacket before dragging him over the seat and throwing him to the floor.

The unprovoked attack resulted in the victim suffering a serious knee injury which he still needs treatment for now.

Despite his friend trying to chase the attacker, he managed to get away.

Since that night detectives have been carrying out extensive enquiries and believe the attacker has links to, or is from, the Glasgow and Loch Lomond areas.

It is believed he purchased the tickets earlier that same day from a man in O’Shea’s Irish Bar on Princess Street in Manchester City Centre.

Officers are now releasing an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assault.

Detective Constable Leanne Gibb, from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “If it is you, or you recognise this man, we urge you to contact police as soon as possible.

“The victim was merely minding his own business enjoying the match and was attacked for no reason. No one should be subjected to violence like this.

“I’m hoping someone recognises the man pictured or was there the night of the attack and can remember something. I would ask that you please call police.”
