The M58 in Lancashire is closed eastbound between Switch Island (M57/A5036/A5758/A59) near Aintree and the J3 (A570, Skelmersdale) due to a serious collision. This closure has also closed the entry sliproad from J1 of the M58 (Maghull). The incident is located between J1 and J3 of the M58 however traffic is physically unable to exit the M58 at J1 hence the closure being implemented from Switch Island. Also note that the M58 has no J2.
North West Motorway Police Group are on scene managing the incident.
A diversion is in operation marked with a hollow circle on local road signs. This takes traffic north on the A59 from Switch Island to Omskirk. In Omskirk follow the B5197 to the junction with the A570. Turn right to join the A570 and continue on the A570 to join the M58 eastbound at J3.
Road users in the area are advised to allow additional time for their journey.
