A much younger crowd than usual awaited the Mayor of Bury when he held court in the council chambers.
Pupils from East Ward and Higher Lane primary schools paid a visit to Bury Town Hall and held a question and answer session with the borough’s ‘first citizen’ Councillor Trevor Holt.
They fired questions to the mayor on a wide range of topics, from the mayoral chains to climate change, the use of plastics and even the mayor’s favourite holiday destination.
Cllr Holt said: “The mayoress Evelyn and I enjoyed the visit from the children very much. We were very impressed by their knowledge and awareness of current issues such as climate change and the use of plastic, and they also asked about healthy eating, which is something I’m going to follow up on with them.
“One student even asked how much I earned by being mayor, and I was more than happy to tell him.
“The children were a credit to themselves, their parents and their schools.”
The mayor’s favourite holiday destination is Tenerife, by the way!
