The Association of Pakistani Physicians and Surgeons of the UK’s Central Executive Body met today in Manchester to celebrate the achievements of last year and welcome the new leadership.
The event was co-ordinated by Dr Shadaba Ahmed who is a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Lancaster and Dow Medical University graduate.
APPS UK President, Mr Shakeel Puri explained the structure of the organisation and announced the results of recent elections as below:
*Chair: Dr Amber Tahir, Consultant Gynaecologist from Hereford*
*Vice Chair: Dr Shaheena Anjum, Consultant Paediatritian from Liverpool*
*General Secretary: Dr Altaf Rehman, Consultant Pathologist from Sheffield*
*Social Secretary: Dr Saima Noman, Consultant Care of the Elderly from Manchester*
The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Dr Robina Shah and Pakistan Community Welfare Attache, Mrs Fizzah Niazi took oaths from the new office bearers.
APPS UK Chair presented her vision for the next year in her speech. She is keen to empower deprived communities in the UK as well as Pakistan. She also encouraged more female doctors to come forward and play active roles in APPS UK’s projects.
APPS UK Ex-Chair Dr Ghulam Abbas was satisfied with the progress the Association has made during the last 12 months and expressed his best wishes to the new Chair and her team.
Representatives of various alumni bodies in the UK were also present and it included King Edward Medical University, Khyber Medical College, Aga Khan University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Nishtar Medical College, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College and Army Medical College among others.
The atmosphere in the hall was electric which inspired many young and old doctors to take an active part in the development and progress of APPS UK.
APPS UK Founder and CEO, Dr Abdul Hafeez, while speaking to the media, said that we have never looked back since the inception of APPS UK over 14 years ago. We are the largest organisation representing Pakistani doctors at all levels. Our resolve to keep going up is ever stronger and we will keep fighting for the rights of our fellow doctors and patients till our last breath InShaAllah!
In the end the whole APPS UK Team sang Dil Dil Pakistan and the President thanked all the executive members some of whom had travelled for up to 4 hours to reach Manchester, which shows the utmost passion that they have in their hearts for Pakistan.
